This training program is designed to take into account the nature of the Ironman Coeur d’Alene course which is a rolling bike section and a flat run.
If you live in a flat area then you will need to seek out the hills although you can make up for this by learning to ride in a big gear to mimic long drags.
It’s possible that there will be times in your race when you can stay in the aero position over some of the rolling hills so practice this as well.
The marathon will also have some hills and so it’s important for you to build up some leg strength in your running and develop a technique for efficient hill climbing. Our schedule reflects this.
