This morning we had our very first “CompuTrainer fun ride.”

12 athletes, some competing on Saturday joined us for a ride out to the airport. The idea was for Kevin Lynch our cameraman to ride on the scooter and film the whole ride just as he would for the real course videos (RCV). In a few days time Kevin will turn the raw footage into a short real course video and then mail one out to each rider who took part so that they can a) get a feel for what we are developing, b) so that the CompuTrainer owners among them actually ride in their own Real Course Video and c) to commemorate their participation in the very first of these rides.

After the ride it was back to the first full day of the Expo and we have had a steady stream of people interested in the CompuTrainer and especially our new real course videos.

Numbers seemed to drop off quite a lot in the afternoon and that gave me the opportunity to catch up with some more interesting personalities.

Steven Lord and Paul Clements dropped by the expo – Paul represented Jersey at the 2006 Commonwealth games. Since qualifying for this event at Monaco 70.3 in 2007 Paul has had lots of problems with his Achilles tendon (seems to be a regular thing among triathletes) and consequently hasn’t managed much training at all this year. In fact he hasn’t run or biked for several months and so it was a pleasant surprise to see him here at all. Obviously his goal for race day is just to finish and enjoy being on the big island.

I also met Scott Rigsby. Scott was the first double amputee to complete the Ironman in 2007. In 2006 he decided to do this race and told me that his biggest problem was that he couldn’t swim and he didn’t have a bike. Notice that he never mentioned the lack of 2 lower limbs. A quick chat with Scott and I realized that in fact he never uses this as an excuse for what he can and can’t do. I contrast this with so many people I meet who say they would love to do triathlon but, and then it’s followed by some excuse like “I have a busy life” or “you don’t understand my kids need me to taxi them everywhere” or even potential personal training clients who come up with some any excuse to avoid exercise most of which are pretty lame.

You should meet Scott and then don’t ever tell me you can’t do something.

So enough of my ranting. I’ll have more for you tomorrow.
