Kona – Its the calm before the storm

In Ironman of TTC (October 11, 2008 4:58 am)

As you would expect before big race, today was the calm before the storm. Surprisingly the expo was quite busy and we even sold 2 CompuTrainers to make 5 for the week; not quite the record 17 from a few years ago, but reasonable nevertheless. Maybe we sell less now because most athletes who are racing here already have them!

I did spy some of the GB athletes going down to rack their bikes but more irritatingly I saw some classic pre race mistakes including:-

  • changing pedal cleats, in the coffee shop at 4pm
  • running hard late on in the afternoon ( I saw the athlete go past and come back at least 30 minutes later)
  • Running around the expo, as it was closing, looking for gas bottles
  • visiting the expo at least 3 times in the morning
  • spending all day relaxing on the beach, in the sun

If you don’t know why I find this type of thing alarming then read my earlier posts “Silly Mistakes”

OK, that’s it for now. It’s time for bed before the storm hits.

Stay tuned for race reports on Sunday.
