Doom & Gloom – Just keep training!

One of the great things about being out in Hawaii, apart from the obvious benefits, is that you are a bit cut off from the real world. Couple that with the fact that most people only want to talk about triathlon and you actually live in Ironworld for a weeks or so. Unfortunately you have to enter the real world eventually. And since I have been back in the UK it’s all been doom & gloom. I’ve actually stopped buying the papers, because there’s hardly ever any good news.

So, what has this all got to do with triathlon? Well actually a few things.

Firstly most of the triathletes I meet are positive people with a good outlook on life. We need triathletes and those like them to help get us out of this mess.

Secondly, the best way to attack a problem, and we are facing a very big problem, is to fight it head on. And to do that you need to keep a clear head and think smart. Being fit will help you to stay sharp and make the right decisions.

Third. In your triathlon club there are probably several other movers & shakers in the business world locally. Have you done any business with them? The club ride or run is the perfect place to do some networking.

Finally (and not because there aren’t any more, but because I need to finish here!) no matter how bad the finances are, the one thing that you cannot buy is good health. Triathletes must be about the healthiest bunch of people on the planet. There are many advantages to being a triathlete but this must rank as the #1.

It costs nothing to get out there and enjoy the fresh air with your family or best friends. So keep training and while you’re at it, why not set some other goals this winter. See how many non athletic people you can introduce to the outdoors and forget about the doom & gloom.

 Have fun

Simon

There isn’t much better than falling out of bed at 5:30am having a slice of toast, feel the bite of jack frost in your lungs, climb on your sturdy winter bike (without a computer) and spin your legs all the way to work.
How many people see owls looking for there breakfast or are guided by a squadron of gease going south.
Clears your mind of mortgages and christmas.
An impressive way to start the day before someone tells me they have been made redundant.

Not sure about networking though. I would go to a club session to get away from that sort of thing. But then I’m not in buisness.
